Heres todays Model, Derek.
He's a new model I tested with, hes trying to make it in this industry and this was his 1st shoot ever. He did a great job for a 1st timer... dont you think?
The day started out with some fun studio shots, playing with water and different looks then it was off to the park for some grassy looks. It was still warm out (surprisingly) so we wanted to have fun in the sun. The shoot went great, my friend Princess came out to help with Dereks modeling she helped out a lot so thank you princess! And I wish Derek nothing but the best on his journey!
Above is also a improvised video clip from the day. (Shot a few clips here and there and made it into a little something)

Heres a quick look at one of the photos I shot recently for Vanity Studios, a new high-end salon here in Stamford. Thanks to the whole team and all the models who came out to create these images. Model - Teyonce V. Makeup - Marvin Speight. Wardrobe - KayBrickhouse. Hair - Shaqueen Valentine.
The day was hectic and models where every where but we pulled it off and got some amazing photos.

Shaqueen Valentine did her amazing hair, Marvin Speight on makeup and Kay created her look with wardrobe. I had a great team that day, and we turned out some truly beautiful shots. I got the chance to shoot some really cool images for Kendras portfolio update, Shes a returning client who always proves shes got what it takes to model, from fashion to commercial work. We tried to shoot a couple different looks with different styles. She did great with each. Above are 3 examples from 3 different looks. There are more of each look up soon on my website.
She was amazing, she let me be creative with lighting and I think we got something very interesting out of the shoot.

Heres a shot from a premier party for the new issue of the source magazine and the two models (the Harris twins) that I shot for the Enyce ad that went into the magazine. The advertorial came out nice they did a great job! Pick up a copy!

Miami Instax

Miami was amazing..... beautiful weather, beautiful locations, amazing people and full of life!
I got a chance to do a shoot while I was down there with a great model named Pedro, he came out to my hotel in miami beach at like 7am and we immediately went out to the beach and did a shoot with a different camera than my usual SLR; we used a Instax instant camera. And the results were great! Goes to show you that you dont need any equipment or anything just love for what you do and talented models.
I wanted to shoot something that didn't require any photoshop, or crazy lighting.... I wanted to shoot something natural and clean something that had to be perfect when shot. I think we got that.... the full resolution scanned images will be up on my site soon!

Ok so Im walking through target at like 10pm and im looking for a few things when I stop and run over to the magazine rack because lo and behold the New issue of Jones Magazine is out!
I quickly skim through and see my spread, its BIG and Beautiful!

The Shoot with Beverly Bond went great, thanks to everyone who helped out that day!! (We had a Great Team!)

Stephen Hill - BET★ PRESIDENT

....Who has'nt heard of BET★!!? ....how about 106 & park, or the BET Awards?
Rhetorical question! (of course) .... Just about everyone has heard of BET!

Well meet the man behind it all... President of BET★, Stephen Hill an amazing down to earth guy!
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hill for a photoshoot I got booked for, him and his team were amazing.
The day started with a hand shake and name exchanges...then we moved on to the actual shoot, we tried some simple tough looking shots of him by his desk and around his office, he was making jokes in-between shots and creating a fun environment for the shoot..... He told us about how he is always thought of as a tough, strict guy based on his appearance and job title....President of BET.
But It couldn't be farther from the truth, hes comedic and down to earth while always still being professional, a GREAT all-around guy! So after we took those shots and his PR person loved them, I decided to maybe do something a little more fun, I suggested he get up by his window and just mess around with the idea. They loved the idea and we bagan to move furniture around he then jumped on and a few moments later click click click, we had some amazing photos.. you can seea preview above...
I had a great time and it was a pleasure meeting Mr. Hill and his Team!

...Oh and as an added bonus to having a photoshoot with the president of BET★ ... I was also told that my photo is featured in THE SOURCE Magazine, this month!!!!!

Hi Everyone I recently did a shoot for C-Zar a very talented, up and coming Artist. His tribal, techno sound is popular in Brazil, Mexico, and other places abroad..... He starting to create quite a commotion here in the states.
I shot his promotional photos for his new album and for his promotional work.

Fresh Rain 2010

Here is a Sneak peak of the shoot I did with Rain for her official site, magazine, and other promotional works.
The shoot was rather last minute and improvised but it all came together perfectly!
She had just shot a Live production and came over to the studio, along with Marvin Speight (Make-up) for the shoot. He is also featured in an article with her for the magazine, so I shot them together.
We shot her look against different backgrounds and played with her look, all before the big snow storm was suppose to hit...it was a bad snow storm after all but we got to finish before it began, thankfully!
I am truly in love with the results, one of our best shoots together...without a doubt!

Stamford Snow Storm

I woke up this morning after last nights photo-shoot with Rain and was about to start working on some photos when I looked out my window and notice that the flurries that had started last night had turned into a heavy snow fall!
A winter wonderland! I immediately grabbed my camera and began to snap photos of the show, before the sun melted it!
The 2 photos you see here (on the bottom) are from rite outside my window, everything looks so calm and beautiful. the other photo (on top of the other 2) is a photos I shot of downtown stamford.
I think we got a total of 15inches??

Indigenous tribal universe

I recently did a photo shoot with a great model; Dima, who thankfully didn't mind getting a little Dirty for the sake of a great photo!
The Idea was to capture an indigenous person from a alternate tribal universe.....lol I know its a bit wild but I was tired of simply doing the same "pretty" model look, (I love that look but I needed a break, to show some versatility) I wanted some CHAOS!
And thats what I got!
We shot some great images in the studio, they'll all soon be up on my site....lots of neon color to these new photos and poetic movements. It was a lot of fun and Im glad that we got something amazing and different.
I hope you all like them as well, Ill be sure to let you all know when my site gets all the new images.
Im still working on a title for this shoot.....that will be the hard part! lol

I have been such a procrastinator!
I have been meaning to update this blog, but have just been incredible busy editing photos and taking on new shoots. (wich you will all see up on here & on my site very soon)
But ill be updating all week, everything just might not be in its original timeline...but ill try! :-)

...So I finally got a quick chance to start updating today!
I took a few shots of myself while trying to figure out what lighting would look best for black & white portraits...And decided to try and spice up my own look in my self portraits, Im Hugo all day its fun to play pretend! ;-)

Every one asked if I really dyed my hair white or silver....
The answer... My hair was dyed silver, it didnt look half bad....but it only lasted about a week, temp hair color rocks!

Me and my team had the pleasure of shooting a wonderful model from Muse NYC.

She was vibrant and always ready to shoot, even if the day wasn't!
The day started with Make-up, Hair, & Wardobe, at my studio we then went out to location and shot about 3-5 looks, and battled off the horrible weather!
It was the day before Hurricane Bill was suppose to hit the east coast, so it was raining on and off, cloudy, and chilly, but candice was a trooper! lol and so was my amazing team.....Hopefully no one got sick! :-) ..... You guys are the BEST!

Oh and Thanks to my friend Jonathan for providing the Snake......and helping Candice and the team overcoming a fear ;-)

I noticed a trend, I have been getting the same questions over and over from the people I interact with on photo-shoots and from people who inquire about my shoots.

SO I thought that this blog would give me the opportunity to answer those constant questions for every one!

so here we go my Q&A:

Q: Are you really 21?

A: YES! lol In an industry where it is more common to find a photographer who is 30+ there are always younger talented photographers out there! ;-)

Its just that its harder for a young photographer to get the equipment and Cash they need to gain enough exposure to get noticed.

Q: How often do you update your website?

A: About every 3 months

Q: How long have you been doing photo-shoots?

A: I have been shooting "professionally" for about 2 years (almost), But I have had a camera in my hand ever since I could hold one.

(I have proof....Ima go look for that baby photo!)

Q: Did you study to become a Digital Fashion photographer?

A: Surprisingly No! ..... Honestly I just picked it up, (the camera lol) I literally taught my self by looking at other photographers work, and checking out there "behind the scene" videos! This is totally and trully my PASSION I wanted to LEARN! (and still am learning)

I also taught myself how to photoshop my photos! (that was hard lol)

Q: Why fashion photography?

A: I dont know how to describe it..... But I remember I came across a website one day called JGKinc.net (its gone now) but It was a photography agency. I saw that site with a bunch of GREAT photographer and there photos....and said "WOW" I loved the angles, the models, the beauty/drama, the hair, makeup, wardrobe and the lighting and the sets! :-)

The more I looked the more I fell in love with the idea of being able to create and capture a fantasy!

Q: Do you only shoot fashion photography?

A: Nope! Thats my "speacialty" per-say but I also dabble in many other types of photography....

Q: What photographers inspire you?

A: WOW there are so many! lol I actually have on my computer an "Insperation" TAB and when I click on it a long list of about 200 photographers that I love and inspire me appear!

But SOME of my absolute favorites at the moment are:

Q: What is the Job of a fashion photographer?

A: To Sell a Dream! ..... A fashion Photographer is a Commercial artist the idea is to sell clothes. Tempt the public with beauty, excitement and Dreams. You MUST KNOW about lighting, hair, make-up, wardrobe, marketing and fashion! (or at least pretend to know..... just kiding lol)

Q: What are your goals with photography? Is this just a hobbie?

A: This is my passion and career! At least thats how I have been looking at it....I took time off from college to peruse this crazy dream of mine. (as my family sometime says) But My Obvious goals are to be successful, to be recognized and sought after! I want to work with every Great Model, clothing line, agency, and magazine there is! I also want to be able to give back and help the many dreamers of tomorrow. I want to do this Forever, and even if I never achieve any of that....this is always going to be my addiction!

Q: What Model, Magazine, and clothing line would you love to work with?
A: There are soo many! I would be honored to work with any one who would give me the opportunity! But SOME of my dream photoshoots would be:
Model: Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, Adrianne Curry, Eva Pigford, theres soo many more! :-)
Magazine: Zink magazine, V magazine, Muse, GQ, Sports illustrated (swimsuit), Vogue........
Clothing Line: Dolce & Gabbana, Rock & Republic, Victoria Secret, Versace, Dior, Gucci, Zara, Converse......

Q: Do you only take photos of women and professional models?
A: No I shoot any one and every one willing to stand in front of my lens!

Q: Do you have a Studio and can you shoot out on location as well?
A: Yes, I have a humble studio with ample space, lights, different backgrounds, TV's and make-up and hair stations. And I can also shoot outside with lights and without the need of an outlet, so any where is possible!

Q: How long does it take you to edit photos? Do you have any Before and Afters?
A: I can hand in photos at your request (if you have a deadline or something) But it usually takes my about 1-2 weeks for about 10 photos, sometimes less it depends on my work load and the amount of elaborateness and detail needed! (I never like photos to look photoshoped!) And yes I do have printed before and afters I can show you in person, I dont ever post them online or hand them out because of client privacy!

Q: What exactly do you do on a photoshoot?
A: Well it all depends on what exactly you want...but typically we start the day with Make-up, Hair and wardrobe. Then we either move to my studio or go out to our outdoor location. We start shooting and that usually takes between 3-5 hours depending on your experience and having to move form location to location or setting up a scene. We shoot till we get the shots your happiest with and then we go over the photos, and end the day! It all usually takes about 6-8 hours. (But time flies by, you usually never feel it during a photo shoot)

Q: When will I be able to see my photos?
A: You can actually see the photos we take as we shoot them on a screen in my studio or on my laptop screen if we are outside! Then you get to go over each one in detail after the shoot.

Q: Do you save the photos I dont choose? (incase I want more later on)
A: Yes I save all my photoshoots, Just in case!

Q: Do you know any Make-up, Wardrobe, & Hair stylists for photoshoots?
A: Of course! I know a lot of talented people whom I have had the pleasure of working with.....And can always help you find the rite people for the type of photo-shoot your interested and thinking about!
And if you happen to be a MAU, Hair, or wardrobe stylist, and like my work send me an email I always love working with new people!

Q: What makes you different from any other photographer?
A: Im young and fresh I dont try and be superior to the people I work with and treat every one like an old friend, Im not in it for the Money! I like helping out the people who work with me in any possible way I can. I have the ability to not only to organize and set up a shoot but to direct and touch up the photos I take. I personally love to take edgy and creative photos, with a sort of fantasy and glam feeling to them.....But I can shoot anything! I never just hand you a CD with raw boring photos I try to make the photo the best they can possible be from beginning to end! I give you photos of yourself as you imagine yourself to be at that moment. (beautiful and one of a Kind!)

Q: Do you travel? Do you only shoot in Connecticut and NY?
A: I am always available for travel if needed! I shoot mostly in Connecticut and NY but I also travel often to Mexico (Puebla & Mexico City) to shoot there as well! Oh Canada Too! But like I said Im available and ready to fly any where im needed! ;-)

"About me" ... Well I never really know what to say, I guess Ill just post my official Bio, and replace the third person format.

My name is Hugo Castillo I have always been fixated on what the camera can capture and the inspiration it can motivate.

I'm 20, and a self-taught fashion photographer and Photoshop wizard.

Im currently pursuing my dream; getting signed to an agency, gaining more exposure, and working with many more great models, artists, talent, magazines, and corporations.

Photography is NOT my JOB, it’s my PASSION! I try to show that in my work…and at every photo-shoot!

Im a humble guy, just trying to make a name for myself...A dreamer with specific goals for my future!

I made this blog to keep every one whos interested in my work, updated. Since I usually update my website: www.HugoCastillo.com every 3 month (just about).

Plus I felt this way its more personal and quick to get information and photos out...Ill be adding Video, photos, and stories about my photo-shoots and travels. Almost like a journal.....Im doing this more for me, so i can look back one day and see all the FUN I had chasing my dream. Your welcome to follow my journey, and even be a part of it!
